Estonian Concrete Building of the Year is the building of Estonian Academy of Security Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, 11th<\/sup> of March the winner of the \u201cConcrete Building of the Year Awards 2019\u201d was announced. Estonian Academy of Security Services won the prize that has been given out for 20 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The jury\u2019s comment: \u201cIt is not about the exposed smooth concrete mold surface – the architect has also been very creative, skilfully utilizing the effects of concrete elements. Construction of high slanting walls (at 5 and 10 degree angles) of prestressed hollow core panels commonly used in intermediate ceilings. The aesthetically pure concrete shell of the building forms a significantly strong shield that conceals a humane and soft content. \u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201dA state-of-the-art, architecturally advanced, well-functioning educational and research facility that is energy efficient and economically sustainable. Easily achieved interesting architecture,\u201d said Chairman of the Jury, Aadu Kana<\/strong>, about this year\u2019s winner.<\/p>\n

The Concrete Building of the Year 2019<\/strong> is the building of the Estonian Academy of Security Services. The main prize, architecture \u2013 Arhitekt11 O\u00dc<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Special Award for the Client <\/strong>– Vahtra Big Farm.<\/p>\n

Client – Weiss O\u00dc. Award given for the client for a well thought-out goal and purposeful activity.<\/p>\n

The jury\u2019s comment: \u201cConcrete has been chosen for the right place here – constructionally it lasts. In the newly independent Estonia, there is no livestock building built that is fully made of reinforced concrete load-bearing structures.”<\/p>\n

Chairman of the jury Aadu Kana<\/strong>: \u201cWeiss O\u00dc, a farm in P\u00e4rnu County, has been rebuilding a number of barns for 25 years and has the experience that gases from animal husbandry – heat and methane – to cause livestock rotting and rusting of iron posts. So it was decided to build a concrete barn. At the peak of concrete use is the building’s milking parlor, with its high-bridged (24x24m) ceiling made of post-tensioned monolithic concrete. ”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Special Award of Ehitusuudised.ee (\u00c4rip\u00e4ev)<\/strong> was given to the owner of Tartu Vikerkaare 15 – R.E.R. Ehitus O\u00dc, main extractor and concrete contractor.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Special award from the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers<\/strong> was given to Neoprojekt O\u00dc, the designer of Maakri 19\/21 business quarter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This year’s 20th edition of the Concrete Building of the Year competition has been launched to introduce the public to the wide range of concrete uses and to acknowledge those who have used domestic building materials – abundant and well-formed concrete.<\/p>\n

This year’s competition received 15 entries. Qualification involved concrete buildings that were delivered to the contractor in 2019, as well as any structures and procedures which were used within them.<\/p>\n

The jury of the \u201cConcrete Building of the Year 2019\u201d consisted of representatives from the Estonian construction associations: Joel Kopli of the Estonian Architects Association, Kalev Ramjalg of the Estonian Concrete Association, Indrek Peterson from the Estonian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs, Heiki Meos from the Estonian Association of Civil Engineers, Johann-Aksel Tarbe from the Estonian Construction Consulting Association, Enno Rebane from the Building Materials Manufacturers Association; Aadu Kana, Chairman of the Jury; as well as representatives of construction journalists – Eva Kiisler, Editor-in-Chief of the construction publications of \u00c4rip\u00e4ev, Liivi Tamm Editor-in-Chief of EhitusEST magazine, and Finnish architect Maritta Koivisto – Editor-in-Chief of Betoni magazine.<\/p>\n

The Estonian Concrete Association<\/em><\/strong> is an association promoting the use of concrete as a domestic building material, it comprises 71 companies, organizations and individuals.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Estonian Association of Building Materials Manufacturers<\/em><\/strong> is an association of 62 companies involved in the production and sale of building materials.<\/em><\/p>\n
